Nineth Ward - CNN
Can someone tell me what the hell "evironmental racism" is? Are you 'effin kidding me? Is that kind of like "reverse racism" (you know the kind of racism that only white people can claim). Is this a word that only black people who went through Katrina who lived in New Orleans, in the 9th Ward can use? What about blacks in Biloxi, MS or blacks that lived in Longbeach, MS that lost everything to Katrina. Probably not. Someone in the 9th Ward probably trademarked it.
What about the white, asian, or indian families that lost everything? I would be very interested in what kind of racism this would be. I am up for suggestions. Maybe we can start something.
Okay, so we talked about the "racism" aspect of this article. Let's move to my next favorite......"Get off your ass and do something about it" part.
I am soooooo sick and tired of hearing about New Orleans this, New Orleans that and Katrina. You do understand that there were places as far north as Poplarville, MS, Baton Rouge, LA and Mobile, AL that got hit with damages from Katrina, right? Or, how about Longbeach/Diamondhead, MS? It was wiped off the face of the planet. Oh, but poor, poor New Orleans and the inability to help themselves. The day after Katrina, the people of MS spent more time rebuilding than complaining. Funding? I don't know a whole lot about that....however I do know that if you clean it up and you mow it and you take care of your own neighborhood and NOT expect that the government/cities PAY you to do all this, or didn't have the mentality that it's the cities job to take care of it, maybe, just maybe I would feel a bit sorry for you.
This problem has absolutely nothing to do with whatever flavor of racism you feel like tasting today. If you want to see change, make your own move. Don't wait for others to do it for you.
