Holy shit. No pun intended. This is absolutely ridiculous. I think that my brain is going to implode. Like....divide my brain by zero. I don't get it. Someone please enlighten me.
Christian Flag
So, let me give you a brief synopsis of what is going on in this town.....the christian flag was being flown on government/city property. It was voted to be taken down. The store across the street put up a 35 foot flag pole and started flying the christian flag as a freedom of religion and to honor the vets.....
Sooooo, what is the problem you might say?
Looks to me like that the people who had the problem with the flag flying over the memorial now has the problem it's flying on private property. Holy shit. Holy......shit. *shaking my head*
You have got to be pulling my leg.
For those of you who know me personally, you know that I am a ex-christian (I take this very seriously and I am still on my journey thank you), however, I fully, FULLY believe in FULL religious rights. I also happen to believe in "if it's my property, I will do as I wish." Thank you. Now, put the two together and now, to me, it's DEFCON 5.
However, I must explain.
Point one: The christian flag should not have been flying on city/government or any public property. Fully understood. No religion crosses that line and visa versa. It really is a great relationship if used for good. However, I fully understand why it was in the first place. Some areas in the US are deeply religious and the majority of it are christian. It's their town, let them do what they want with their towns. City councils can vote, deal and live with it all. I do not envy.
Point two: The business across the street put the flag on their flagpole that the business erected in honor of these fallen soldiers. Oh, and to exercise their religious freedoms. On their privately owned property where their business is located. *whistle* Wow. I would shake the owner's hand and tell him/her thank you for honoring and thank you for acting upon your rights. Regardless of my religious beliefs.
Add both points and come up with point three. You fought your fight against city hall to have it removed. Glad you won. Leave ordinary citizens alone and let them be. You won't win this battle. I can promise you that.
Do you hear that? *hand up to my ear* Is that some kid somewhere saying the Pledge of Allegience?
Oh, last note, the jackass in the very last line in the report....
"We as a city... as a country... need to take our country back as Christians," said Jim Walton.
Are.....you.....fucking.....kidding......me? I would love to meet this guy. I for one believe in freedom of speech, but not in the freedom of being ignorant. Ignorance does not excuse you from being a hate monger. Or a to put it mildly, an extremist.
Divided by zero.
